Television- Marquee Moon

Is Television’s Marquee Moon the last great epic guitar album? I think all of us can attest (for those who have listened to it repeatedly in perennial fashion) qualitatively, that it’s a masterpiece and a supreme achievement for a vision manifested by starving artists inspired by free jazz, reggae, surf/psychedelic garage rock, the velvet underground, jimi hendrix, even funk.

Nevertheless, I digress:

Is it true, that if The Grateful Dead ever dipped their smelly toes into the Goth genre, the song Marquee Moon would be the logical conclusion of the only song worth listening to by the Dead?

Is Television’s song Marquee Moon really an ode to Werewolf films?

Is the band, itself, really a collective of horror flick junkies? Is Torn Curtain, the last song on the Marquee Moon album, indicative of this notion? The ending of Torn Curtain displays some of their most creative guitar playing.

Is it true, that the song Friction, the third song on the album: is the record’s real barnburner?

So check it out if you’re curious to know where it stands regarding great guitar albums. Opinions vary, so please, let us know what you think. Just a reminder, while you speculate and wonder about this unique piece of music/art: It was released in early 1977. I, personally, always factor in historical, social, culture relevance in context to the artifact at hand. Remember the incredible power of cause and effect: action, reaction, action, reaction, etc..putting things in perspective is a great clarifier
